Zoe Onion

She takes up space-

not at first, but-

as the visit goes on- I watch as she

expands, filling

the room with her

presence, the

many miles between her beginning and now are

in this room-

with us-

the air somehow has

more

substance

and what she wants is

(of course safety, but so much

more than)

safety, but also to be

all that she is, in her

magnificence

of self.

Zoë Onion is a family medicine resident at Family Health Center of Worcester with interests in perinatal care, gender affirming care, and care for underserved populations. She enjoys the human aspect of medicine, and writes poetry about her medical experiences.
